Diabetes testing can be performed in a variety of ways, depending on the individual’s needs. An overnight fasting plasma glucose (FPG) test is a standard blood test that evaluates blood sugar levels. Because eating elevates blood sugar levels, fasting is required. This test is used to assess adults without symptoms for diabetes and prediabetes. A random blood sugar test (RBG) is a blood test that can be done at any time of day to monitor blood sugar levels. This test is used to diagnose diabetes and to keep track of blood sugar levels in diabetics. A haemoglobin A1C (HbA1c) test examines the average amount of sugar in the blood during the previous three months. This test is used to see how effectively a diabetic is managing his or her condition while on therapy.
A dyslipidemia is a blood test that examines cholesterol, triglycerides, and other fat levels. A complete metabolic panel (CMP), which typically includes a glucose test, frequently includes a lipid profile. This test is designed to detect and diagnose cholesterol and other fat-related issues in the blood. It can also be used to determine a person’s risk of developing heart disease.
